Week 9

It's crazy to think that this is the last week of my internship at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. First, let's talk about my trip to New York City. I woke up at 5:30 AM thinking that I needed to get up that early to get to the 30th Street Station on time for my 7 AM bus. My friend Idris and I got to the station at 6 AM. Needless to say, we were way too early. However, we happily got to NYC on time at 9:10 AM. We then went straight to Chinatown via the subway. It was ridiculous how my credit card wouldn't work at the Subway station machine despite having tried many many times. I ended up paying by cash. I am hoping that I won't be billed for those transactions because it didn't work. At Chinatown, I met up with my high school friend Henry. We decided to get breakfast at a place called Cha Chan Tang, which serves classic Hong Kong style breakfast items such as condensed milk toast, Satay Beef Instant Noodle, Macaroni with ham, etc. I also had a cup ...

On Saturday, I woke up at 5:30 AM to go shadow the Temple University Hospital Trauma Surgery Team. I haven't woken up at 5:30 AM in forever, but surprisingly, it wasn't that difficult. Perhaps I was excited. I arrived just before 7 AM, and within minutes of the team starting to discuss their current admitted patients, 3 trauma calls in a row came in. However, none of the calls were penetrating trauma which I had expected to see. Nonetheless, it was an interesting experience. Here's a view of the horizon from one of the hospital floors. On Sunday, I met with my high school friend Jonathan. We caught up a bit, walked around the UPenn campus, and ate at an all-you-can-eat hot pot place in Chinatown. I don't think I annoyed him too much haha... Also today, Xavier, my neighbor from Bordeaux, France, left for Indonesia. It was ...

Since I stayed quite late last Friday at the Emergency Department of TUH, I slept in on Saturday. However, that didn't mean that I didn't have fun! In fact, Saturday turned out to be quite an experience. First, my neighbor Idris (from Saudi Arabia) and I went to Reading Terminal Market (remember, pronounced Redding) where they had a special ice cream event. They had a number of area ice cream stores selling ice cream.  I bought an ice cream sandwich which honestly looked much less appetizing then it sounded (no wonder they kept them in a metal cart instead of a glass one like all of the other vendors) which cost a whopping $5. I could have made a better one myself. It honestly looks like a brick to me. However, the redeeming point was when I bought a freshly made ice cream on a freshly made waffle bowl. The bowl was still warm. It made for an amazing snack. Keep in mind that I am lactose intolerant, and I have to say, this second $5 purchase was definitely worth the p...
